Growing up in a small community in Newfoundland, sports was Darlene Howe's thing -it kept her grounded. Soon after graduating from University, Darlene moved to Ontario and was working her dream job as a Marketing Manager. Fast forward a few years and she was married with 3 daughters under the age of 4! Darlene made the decision to leave her career and become a full time parent with the goal of making her little ones lives’ as full as possible. This came with a boatload of different activities and was the start of her getting back into athletics – little did she know that a Terry Fox Run would result in her first half marathon. And, so it began …

Fast forward again a couple more years -the kids are all in school, Oprah had just run a marathon and Darlene's journey continued. Being extremely goal oriented, she was now running with a local group training for a first marathon.  Having no aspirations in terms of time, she figured that if Oprah could do 4.5 hours, she should be able to do 4. Shortly after learning that 3:50 would qualify her for the Boston Marathon, that became her new goal. Darlene ran 3:49:10 and went on to the run Boston consecutively for the next 7 years.

While training for her first marathon, she met a lady who was training for her first Ironman. WOW – that just blew her mind and to say she was intrigued would be an understatement! After a few years of running marathons, Darlene found herself wanting more, and so in 2008 her transition into Triathlon began. In her own words, "I had no idea I was heading into a journey that would soon become my passion. Within a year, I was racing Ironman distances and loving every minute of it.  In 2009, my first Ironman (Lake Placid) was completed and I could not possibly put into words how that felt!"

Darlene's TRI-ing continues to this very day. Over the years, she has juggled being both an involved competitive sports mom and a competitive age group Ironman Level triathlete. In 2012, once again she found herself wanting more. She dreamed to share her passion for the love of sport and fitness with as many people as possible. Darlene became a certified Triathlon Coach and thus, Howe2Train was born. Since then, she has continued racing and coaching and cannot believe 12 years have passed so fast. Over this timeframe, she says that she has lived her best life: 20+ Ironman finishes, 2 appearances at the 70.3 World Championships, consecutive All World Athlete (AWA) statuses, recipient of the 2015 Top Age-Group AWA Canadian Female Triathlete, and countless podium placements. On top of that, Darlene continues to coach numerous athletes to a wide range of finish lines and offer indoor cycling classes (now via Zoom). Darlene says: "I have thoroughly loved helping people from all walks of life stay active, healthy and fulfill goals. I plan to continue living my best life, enjoying the sport, thriving on helping others, fulfilling goals and dreams and becoming an active partner with the Altitude Team to help this company grow and become a big player in the sports nutrition market!"
